Posting – Board of Directors
We are looking for community-minded individuals in Metro Vancouver to grow and diversify the composition of our Board of Directors. As a non-profit organization and registered charity that supports a diverse range of social causes including but not limited to poverty, mental health and, domestic violence, we wish to expand the knowledge, diversity, experience and perspectives that support the vulnerable and under-served groups, particularly in the South Asian community.
About Touching Lives Foundation
Touching Lives Foundation is a non-profit and registered society dedicated to empowering and supporting marginalized groups through direct action and community-based campaigns to offer relief, assistance, and support to those in critical need. By addressing a broad range of issues including mental health awareness, domestic violence, and urban poverty, Touching Lives Foundation is able to reach a wide and diverse group of stakeholders across social and economic lines as it seeks to channel support and resources to vulnerable and under-served groups, particularly in the South Asian community. Driven by a strong conviction that social collaboration and partnerships are the bedrock of resilient and lasting community building, Touching Lives Foundations works alongside other charitable initiatives to pursue common goals and fully maximize the value and impact of received donations. Harnessing the shared power of grassroots activism, the foundation is able to bolster local engagement in key social causes and fulfil its core mandate – to touch a life, to make a difference.
TLF is seeking applicants for our volunteer governance Board of Directors. We welcome applications from individuals who are passionate about TLF’s mission of empowering and supporting marginalized groups through direct action and community-based campaigns. We are seeking applicants who are committed to TLF’s purpose and represent the diversity of the communities we serve, inclusive of gender identity, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability, and socio-economic backgrounds.
EXPECTATIONS OF THE BOARD AS A WHOLE
As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the board is responsible for:
- Provide counsel and input to the strategic direction of TLF.
- Ensure the development and execution of a strong strategic plan.
- Oversee financial and risk management.
- Influence at the individual and community level to positively contribute to advancing the reputation and brand of TLF.
- Ensure the continued financial integrity and sustainability of TLF.
- Leverage knowledge, expertise, connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve TLFs mission and goals.
- Review and maintain TLF’s governance and operating policies and procedures.
- fundraising and resource development
- approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services
- enhancing the organization’s public image
- assessing its own performance as the governing body of the organization
Term:
Start Date: November 2024 (2 positions). Directors are appointed and reappointed for one-year terms; the expectation is to serve for 3 years.
Commitment:
- Prepare for, and attend, Board meetings, actively participating in discussions and decisions as follows:
- Quarterly 3-hour meetings of the Board of Directors in Vancouver or by videoconference
- Be accessible for personal contact between board meetings, via email and phone.
- Remain informed of new developments in the governance and regulatory environment.
- Be familiar with, and support, the organization’s mission, policies, and programs – and fully understand the organization’s financial statements.
- Engage in identifying and securing financial resources and partnerships to enable TLF to advance its mission.
